Thai Brothers Restaurant Showcases ‘Superb’ Dishes in Laguna Beach

Thai Brothers Cuisine – A Family Tradition

Along the coast of California there’s Laguna Beach, famous for its Pageant of Masters and their art festivals, as well as their galleries and restaurants. With such a diverse selection of restaurants, there’s one intimate dining establishment that is part of a family tradition. Thai Brothers, one of three restaurants in the Pikultong family, has been catering for locals and tourist for 21 years.

Pom Pikultong, the owner who has her sister and her relatives handling the kitchen, prides herself with original recipes from her homeland.

When vegetables such as broccoli, carrots, onion squash, sweet basil, green beans, mushrooms and tomatoes are prepared with ginger, cumin, lemon grass and galangal, the taste of a vegetarian dish is divine, especially for vegetarians.

This however, is just the beginning of a love affair with Thai cuisine.

I recommend the coconut soup, prepared with coconut milk, lime juice, fish sauce, sugar, jumbo shrimp cabbage and lemon grass. Prior to enjoying the soup, a Papaya salad will refresh your taste buds. Prepared with sliced papayas, tomatoes, green beans and peanuts in a spicy lime sauce, this dish is a real picker upper.

The main entrees we recommend are Fiery Bamboo, prepared with an array of vegetables, red peppers, bamboo shoots, carrots, green beans and eggplant, in a red curry sauce.

Another popular dish is the Marinated Duck. The duck is deep fried to a golden brown, then integrated with vegetables and rice.

During our culinary journey I noticed patrons ordering the Minced Chicken. This entree is the most popular dish on the menu. It is prepared with mint, bell pepper, carrot, onion, green bean, mushroom in a spicy basil sauce, served with jasmine rice. The culinary journey to Thailand is about to end, but not without homemade coconut ice cream, prepared by Pom.

“We are a family that respects each of our abilities to provide the best Thai cusine to our customers,” Pom says.

Thai Brothers is located in the heart of Laguna Beach at 238 Laguna Avenue. Reservations made be made by calling (949) 375-9979. They are open seven days a week from 12pm to 10:30 pm daily.
