Tara Gunung -Black, the proprietor of Tara’s Himalayan Cuisine greets her customers in a relaxed atmosphere. Her philosophy is to practice what she learned as a child in the little mountain town of Nepal. To understand the unique atmosphere of Tara’s, one must first understand how Tara envisioned opening a restaurant in Los Angeles.
At the age of 8, Tara studied Nepalese classical and cultural dance. While in her teens she became a member of The Royal Academy of Nepal, traveling extensively, performing for kings, queens, and heads of states. It wasn’t until she was performing in Los Angeles that her vision of sharing her culture led to her opening Tara’s Himalayan Cuisine. On the occasion I had dinner there, I felt completely relaxed. The music and the cuisine was an uplifting experience.
Whether it’s a vegetarian dish, a lamb dish, tandoori chicken or a fish dish, everything at Tara’s is prepared from fresh locally grown vegetables. My culinary journey started with the Bheda ko takan, boneless lamb, prepared with tomatoes, garlic, onions, and Himalayan spices. Another dish, Chow Chow Vegetable, consists of Chinese noodles with fresh vegetables, ginger, garlic and Himalayan spices, also my culinary journey an unforgettable one.
That too, is an excellent dish.Considering how busy Tara was on the evening I dined there. I would definitely recommend the dining experience, as well as having your event catered by Tara’s. Hours of operation are Monday -Saturday 12pm to 10pm and Friday and Saturday from 12pm to 11pm.
