The Dark Knight, Dark Times, a Dark Curse?

Oscar-winning and prolific character actor Morgan Freeman was in the hospital today in Memphis, TN after being injured in a car accident. Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Ben Williams has stated the 71-year-old was driving a 1997 Nissan Maxima that belonged to Demaris Meyer of Memphis.

“The vehicle was traveling eastbound on Mississippi Highway 32 in Tallahatchie County. The vehicle ran off the edge of the road and began to flip several times,” he said.

“There’s no indication that either alcohol or drugs involved” he continued.

Freeman is the latest actor from The Dark Knight, the number-one movie for the third straight week, that has made headlines. Batman himself, Christian Bale, was recently arrested several days ago for allegedly assaulting his mother and his sister. The 34-year-old has been released on bail, pending further investigation. But the most tragic of all is Heath Ledger, as the Australian-born actor died from an accidental overdose in January before the film opened. However, his post-humous performance has been getting the most buzz, which some may lead to an Oscar nomination.

This hasn’t been the first time that several actors from a popular movie and/or television series have become top stories. For decades, there have been talks and rumors of a curse on The Exorcist, Poltergeist, and several Superman versions of film and television as well as several other films and TV shows, in which connects both the actors and franchise. These include:

The death of TV’s Man of Steel George Reeves was ruled as a suicide in 1959 but theories have gone on for years. The 2006 movie, Hollywoodland, depicts the actor’s final days before his death.

In 1982, 22-year-old Dominque Dunne from the original Poltergeist died after being choked to death by boyfriend John Thomas Sweeney, who was later convicted and sent to six years in prison. However, he initially served a little over two years.

Actor Brandon Lee died during the shooting of his final film, The Crow, due to a malfunction from a prop gun in 1993 — a year before the film opened. His father, martial-arts legend Bruce Lee, died mysteriously in 1973 at the age of 32 before Enter The Dragon opened in theatres worldwide.

Could the new Batman franchise be next?

According to Regional Medical Center spokeswoman Kathy Stringer, Freeman’s condition is serious. TMZ has stated that he broke several ribs and injured his knee, while Meyer has suffered bruises.

On behalf of everyone here at Newsblaze, we wish them both a speedy recovery and our prayers are with you.
