Taylor Swift Does Not Owe Canada Promoter Any Money Claims Bruce Edwin

Taylor Swift was paid $2.5 million dollars to perform in Canada, yet, when the show was cancelled, according to a lawsuit against her, she kept the money, TMZ reports.

According to TMZ, Taylor Swift was booked to headline a big country music concert in Ottawa in August 2012 called ‘The Capital Hoedown.’ Yet, according to TMZ, the promoters ‘couldn’t get their act together’ and the event was cancelled.

TMZ reports that “According to a new lawsuit filed in federal court in New York, (Taylor) Swift got all of her cash up front and the ticket company, which had to refund $1.8 million in tickets, thinks she should foot the bill since they (the event organizers) claim she never actually did anything.”

Talent Manager Bruce Edwin, CEO of Starpower Management who managed former Michael Jackson guitarist David Williams states, “Artist booking contracts are generally created whereby if the promoter or venue cancels the event due to reasons of their own, the artist still gets paid. For my artists, we require half the money up front, and the other half upon completion of the performance. If the venue or promoter cancels the event, the artist still gets paid, this is how it works. Otherwise, one could potentially have venues and promoters out there all over wasting an artist’s time and money saying they are booking them when they are not, or trying to use their name to put together a show that doesn’t happen, at the expense of the artist.”

Bruce Edwin adds, “Taylor Swift’s management was wisely able to get all of the money up front, and she is entitled to every penny, regardless of the fact that she did not perform. The fact that they get one of the biggest stars in music and don’t know how to pull off a concert isn’t Taylor’s fault. I hope she counter-sues.” Bruce Edwin lastly states, “What do you expect from a group that calls their event a hoe-down? I mean really, many Taylor Swift fans don’t square dance, so what is up with that name?”

“Taylor Swift is an incredibly talented and beautiful recording artist,” Bruce Edwin said, “She deserves every bit of success she has achieved.”
