Hot Off the Press for 2019: Emerging Fashion Brands to Watch This Year

A week into the new year and awards season begins with the Golden Globes. With January as the time of year to predict trend forecasts, the red carpet is the perfect place to start placing bets.

This year’s Globes saw sheen and sparkle, brocade, structure, and simplicity. There was an emergence of color and diversity, a projection of things to come.

Here are some of 2019’s rising fashion brands that are embracing those trends.

Karen Gee

Australian designer Karen Gee became an overnight sensation when Meghan Markle wore her “Blessed” dress on a press tour in Sydney. The understated ivory shift dress with couture zippers subtly showed off Meghan’s baby bump.

An ensuing frenzy over Karen Gee crashed her website repeatedly as people scrambled to get a piece of royalty. Her custom software development company was probably a bit worried as well.

Gee’s brand is focused on ethical clothing. Its signature is structured dresses with feminine finishes and flattering cuts.

Veja

Another brand focused on ethical fashion is the vegan, fairtrade accessories brand Veja. With Emma Watson as a brand ambassador, the brand has seen significant growth despite their no advertisement policy.

Their sporty sneakers are effortlessly cool. Classic creepers come in a wide color palette and can be lace-up or velcro.

Veja regularly collaborates with other fashion brands to keep their offerings fresh and unique.

Adeam

Adeam’s founder, Hanako Maeda, is a second generation Japanese fashion designer. Hers is a fashion of juxtaposition: East meets West, tradition meets innovation.

The clothes are pretty, with beautiful drapery and interesting silhouettes. They are as cool as they are eminently wearable.

Hanako borrows structural elements from traditional Japanese dress and matches them with unexpected fabrics, to striking effect. Lady Gaga, Shakira, and Alicia Keys are among the brand’s varied fanbase.

Martin Grant

Martin Grant has burst onto the scene with his menswear-inspired resort collection. He blends structure with movement for instant classic style with a muted color story.

Casual striped hoodies offset wide-legged trousers. A simple white blouse becomes a modern staple with an asymmetrical collar. Men and women alike are at home in a Martin Grant trench.

Meghan Markle put her golden touch on the brand, as did red carpet standbys Amy Adams and Anne Hathaway.

Established Brands

Established brands are also having a moment in 2019.

Gucci’s SS19 collection is as innovative as ever. Chunky soled trainers and sandals make a statement with bold prints and bright colors.

Young Hollywood looks to Chanel for class as their tastes mature. And Prada is embracing nylon for a line of fun, graphic accessories with widespread appeal.

In general, the old fashion houses are chasing youth. With younger stars like Selena Gomez and the Hadids becoming synonymous with Louis Vuitton and Fendi, they’re enjoying an infusion of life in the new year.

Unique Fashion Brands Are Emerging in 2019

New and old fashion brands are entering 2019 with renewed enthusiasm. Fashion with a conscience is here to stay. And unexpected combinations of styles, colors, and textures have the fashion world buzzing with excitement.
