Dr. Laura is Not Racist – You’re Just Stupid

I never thought I’d live to experience the mind-twisting feeling of actually agreeing with something Sarah Palin said. I’m only 19, and even if I live to be 100, I always told myself I’d never agree with a single word from her bigoted, cretinous mouth.

I think Hell is having an ice age – Sarah Palin is right. Dr. Laura is NOT a racist.

Dr. Laura Schlessinger has come under intense scrutiny from civil rights activists and people in general for her racially-charged diatribe towards a caller seeking advice on her interracial marriage on August 10. Dr. Laura made the unpardonable mistake of using the dreaded, insidious “N word.”

Yep, she said it! She’s obviously a racist!

That’s all it takes in this nation. All it takes is the mere utterance of such a word and you’re a racist by default. Here’s the problem: People are too lazy to look any deeper than the surface of that word. All they see is “N—.” However, the context surrounding the word which makes the entire point is ignored. Nuances are brought to the forefront, such as how many times it was said. People get angry. Al Sharpton gets happy because he’s found another racist scapegoat so he can stay relevant in the public eye. All hell breaks loose upon the speaker, and he or she is forced to apologize and leave the station.

It doesn’t seem fair to me.

Here’s the sad truth about the N-bomb: It carries a ridiculous double standard. Through the process of cultural appropriation, African-Americans took the N-word and molded it into a term of endearment. It’s amazing what you can do to a word when you add an “A” to the end of it! Just like that, this one culture has cleansed a hateful word and made it their own.

However – if you’re white and utter it, prepare to die.

Now, many of those wanting to drive a stake through Dr. Laura are upset just because she uttered the word. Period. Well, I don’t work that way. I have this process that I use called “thinking,” and I’m not so easily swayed by sensationalism. That being said, let’s examine her uses of the word from the transcript of the inflammatory call (of course, I’m censoring the uses of the N-word so mindless, dimwitted idiots don’t have a reason to call me a racist):

CALLER: How about the N-word? So, the N-word’s been thrown around –

SCHLESSINGER: Black guys use it all the time. Turn on HBO, listen to a black comic, and all you hear is n, n, n.

They do use it. All the time. Refer to the double standard portion of this article.

Now, say that I have a ball. A rubber ball that I’m just aimlessly bouncing as I walk up and down the street. Now suppose a black person wants to play with my ball and I say he can’t because he’s not white. Think he’d be a little mad? White people are expected to take the N-word double standard – even if we’re using the word in a quote to advance our point?

The war continues:

CALLER: I can’t believe someone like you is on the radio spewing out the “n” word, and I hope everybody heard it.

SCHLESSINGER: I didn’t spew out the “n” word.

CALLER: You said, “N, n, n.”

SCHLESSINGER: Right, I said that’s what you hear.

She wasn’t “spewing” the word at all. She was using the word for exactly what she said she was using it for – it’s what you hear constantly from black comedians on HBO and what the caller heard. Once again – context, people. Context.

Finally, Dr. Laura gets to her point – not like the average easily-swayed American is even listening at this point:

And to put it in its context, she said the N-word, and I said, on HBO, listening to black comics, you hear “n, n, n.” I didn’t call anybody a n. Nice try, Jade. Actually, sucky try.

She DIDN’T call anyone a N-word. Period. End of report.

So, let’s recap.

Dr. Laura uses the N-word as an example of the double standard surrounding it. She is not using it in a pejorative or defamatory manner, nor is she labeling anyone as such. Due to our inability to examine the context in which a word is used, Dr. Laura became another scapegoat for civil rights activists and left her show. Fascinating stuff, yes?

The N-word has historical precedence, I understand. So does honky and cracker. Blacks can throw those at us all they want, but if they hear the N-word from anyone outside their circle of friends, the poopie will hit the fan.

I hope civil rights groups are happy. They have their means to feel adequate and relevant – in the meantime, logic and intelligence takes a major hit.
