Arnold Schwarzenegger Makes His ‘Stand’ On Set

Arnold Schwarzenegger returns to action as in Korean director Kim Jee-Woon’s The Last Stand. Described as “a modern-day Western,” the actor stars as a disgraced Los Angeles police officer turned border sheriff who takes on a Mexican drug cartel when its leader broke out of prison.

On his Twitter account late Monday, the actor said:

“Fantastic first day on the set of The Last Stand. Big thanks to the crew – keep up the great work.”

The film is the former Governator’s first leading role since 2003’s Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. And speaking of The Governator and The Terminator, there were super-heroic plans of a comic book and animated series for the former, and a fifth installment for the latter, yet Arnold’s divorce from wife Maria Shriver has shelved those plans.

Still, Arnold will be back with fellow action heroes Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis as rival mercenary Trent Mauser in The Expendables 2, which is currently in production; the sequel comes out August 17, 2012.

The Last Stand is set to be release on January 18, 2013.
