Official US Document Found Pertaining to Yeti Search

The Yeti or Abominable Snowman has been mentioned in several legends and folktales dating back hundreds of years ago.

Pre 19th century, The Yeti was part of the pre-Buddhist beliefs of several Himalayan people. Also followers of the Bon religion once believed the blood of the “mi rgod” or “wild man” had use in certain magical rites.

In the 19th century, James Prinsep’s Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bengal published trekker B. H. Hodgson’s account of his experiences in northern Nepal. His local guides spotted a tall, bipedal creature covered with long dark hair, which seemed to flee in fear.

In the 20th century, sightings became much more frequent. Sightings were so frequent that the US Government took a special interest. During the Eisenhower administration, the U.S. State Department thought that it was possible that abominable snowmen actually existed in Nepal.

According to documents located in the National Archives, the State Department, the Foreign Service, and the U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal created three separate regulations requiring anyone that decided to hunt for The Yeti to pay for a “Yeti hunting” permit, surrender all pictures of any findings to the Nepalese government and clear any news surrounding said Yeti with the Nepalese government before going public. Also Yeti seekers had to agree not to harm any possible Yetis they came across unless it was in self defense.
