Facebook Unveils a Redesigned Newsfeed

Today Facebook unveiled a redesigned newsfeed that incorporates bigger images and allows more customization for your Facebook experience.

Many experts believe this is an attempt to gain more advertisers and lure back some of the users that have left Facebook for other sites like Instagram.

Mark Zuckerberg noted that Facebook’s goals for the new newsfeed are richer story design, choice of different feeds, and a consistent experience on mobile devices and desktop Web browsers. In other words, Facebook will look the same and have the same menus on your phone, tablet, or computer. The Best Personalized Newspaper

Zuckerberg stated: “What we’re trying to do is give everyone in the world the best personalized newspaper we can. The best personalized newspaper should be intricate, rich, and engaging.”

According to the Facebook press announcement:

Today we’re announcing a new version of Facebook designed to reduce clutter and focus more on stories from the people you care about. You see all the stories you saw in your News Feed before, but with a fresh new look. We’ve completely rebuilt each story to be much more vibrant and colorful and highlight the content that your friends are sharing. Photos, news articles, maps and events all look brighter and more beautiful.

With the new design, now Facebook has the same look and feel on mobile, tablet and web. For example, the left-hand menu is accessible anywhere you go on Facebook. You also have a way to jump right to the top of News Feed whenever new stories come in.

Several New Feeds Users

The changes coming up is a redesigned layout with larger images of maps, news articles, photos, and apps information. Also depending on the things a user has liked on Facebook in the past, users will see articles that are trending and that are most relevant.

Facebook will introduce several new feeds users can select from in addition to the newsfeed you already have:

  • All Friends – a feed that shows you everything your friends are sharing
  • Photos – a feed with nothing but photos from your friends and the Pages you like
  • Music – a feed with posts about the music you listen to
  • Following – a feed with the latest news from the Pages you like and the people you follow.

Facebook will be rolling out the new design slowly over the coming weeks on web and mobile. If you’d like to get it early, visit facebook and add yourself to the waiting list. These design updates will be available on your iPhone and iPad in the coming weeks and to Android soon after.

Many people are comparing the new layout to looking similar to Google+.
