Home Security Market Set to Grow by More Than 25% in Next 5 Years

home security market

The home security industry has experienced profound growth during the past decade as both surveillance and security have increased domestically. Recent research suggests that the sector is set to continue growing exponentially, with Techavio releasing a report that states the market should surpass $15 billion within the next four years. The study revealed that the involvement of smartphones and other mobile technologies has made home security systems more accessible to the public and has therefore played a key role in the recent growth.

Mobile Networks and Convenient Apps Fueling Growth

Analysts have concluded that the main driving factors for the recent growth spurt in home security are the existence of mobile networks and apps that let users easily control and utilize surveillance systems from anywhere there is a reliable data connection. With mobile networks continually expanding their 3G and 4G coverage, it makes sense that the boost in home security sales has coincided with the ongoing expansion of mobile data networks. With mega networks like Verizon providing coverage that reaches even the most remote areas, it is not surprising that the home security market is set to grow 27% by 2021.

Cameras and Monitoring Systems Will Get Most of the Boost

Experts estimate that the majority of the revenue increases for the industry will come in the form of cameras and integrated monitoring systems sold to consumers. Although apps and mobile networks will be useful for controlling and transmitting security video systems, there will still be a high demand for quality cameras and lenses that can capture more detail. Monitoring services hosted by professionals will also become increasingly popular. Many homeowners hire remote monitoring services to keep watch over their properties while they’re away. Although these services have existed for a while, they are now more convenient and widely available due to app interfaces and mobile marketing.

Looking to 2030 and Beyond

Futurists are almost certain that surveillance will be nearly ubiquitous by the year 2030, and between corporate cameras, traffic cams, private surveillance systems, home security setups, social video streaming, vehicle-mounted cameras, and other forms of recording, there will be few places in the developed world not under the surveillance of some sort of camera for an extended period of time. It is likely that by that point the sensors and lenses used in home security systems will also be more advanced, allowing for incredibly clear and detailed surveillance with almost no delay between the footage and real-time occurrences.

The End Result is Time Travel?

Some sci-fi enthusiasts theorize that eventually, we will reach a point where 1,000 years from now our descendants may be able to virtually time travel by viewing surveillance footage from the distant past within a 3D virtual reality headset. That might seem far-fetched, but even in the event of a major societal collapse, as long as the data is preserved, it’s reasonable to assume that one day, people will be looking hundreds of years back into the past thanks to the widespread use of cameras and surveillance that is soon to become a normal part of modern society.
