The City of Santa Clarita recently hosted the 2009 Western States Police and Fire Games. The Folsom Police Department was represented by three officers who competed in five separate events.

Officer James Dorris was a junior college football stand-out before beginning his law enforcement career nine years ago. James, an avid boxing and mixed martial arts fan, took up boxing in 2003 and within a year was competing in amateur events and at the Western States Police and Fire Games.

Compiling a 13-4 (6 KO) amateur record, James brought home the gold medal at the 2009 games after a third round knock out. By capturing the gold, James also became the first California police officer to win the gold medal in two different weight classes. His next fight is scheduled for October 10th, 2009 at Raley Field.

Sergeant Ron Peterson is no stranger to the police and fire games. He has competed thirteen years at the track and field events. This year, Ron brought home four silver medals and a bronze, which joins his collection of annually achieved games medals.

Officer Warner Herndon has competed the past several years in the Pig Bowl and Police and Fire Games. This year, Warner and his teammates competed at bowling and 5v5 basketball.

The Folsom Police Department is proud of these officer/athletes and appreciates their representation and achievements each and every year.
