Polycom and Motorola Collaborates, Makes XOOM Experience Much Better

The world is getting smaller by the day thanks to technological innovations. How so? I’m not saying all kinds of technology, okay? I’m referring to those kinds that fall right in the palm of our hand and give us a feeling we’re in control. Some would say the control is just an illusion while some would say otherwise (FYI: control is not the issue of this article). But the thing is, the closest feeling we have that we’re in-charge of something is through the kind of technology that allows us to communicate – tablets. No, no. Not Moses’ ten commandment tablets. Let me be more specific – Motorola XOOM tablet.

Recently, Polycom, Inc., provider of standards-based unified communications (UC) solutions for telepresence, video and voice, has made its Polycom RealPresence Mobile available for Motorola XOOM.

If you’re using Motorola’s tablet, Polycom’s HD video technology will allow you to connect simultaneously to other standards-based video systems that includes immersive video rooms, group and desktop systems as well as laptops. The RealPresence Mobile software application extends Polycom’s HD video collaboration technology to deliver to tablets the same high-quality, secure, reliable video experience you are accustomed to inside the office.

“Motorola Mobility is committed to our enterprise users, and we are excited to equip mobile workers with effective collaboration tools that improve decision making and increase productivity,” says Christy Wyatt, corporate vice president and general manager, Enterprise, Motorola Mobility. “Integrating the Polycom RealPresence Mobile application into Motorola XOOM provides a best-in-class HD video experience for our customers that frees them from the office to participate in individual and group video conferences from anywhere with anyone.”

Polycom and Motorola have a long-standing relationship. Because of this partnership, they have successfully seeded Motorola XOOM tablets loaded with the RealPresence Mobile solution to leading Fortune 500 companies across the US for beta testing.

“Together, Polycom and Motorola are unleashing workers by extending the benefits of Polycom-quality video collaboration beyond the conference room and office with a true mobile enterprise video solution for tablets,” says Sudhakar Ramakrishna, executive vice president and general manager of UC solutions and chief development officer of Polycom. “Polycom delivers the essential provisioning, management, system interoperability, firewall traversal, and scalability that CIOs need to video-enable their enterprise mobile workforce, and the reliability, security, and lifelike quality – across devices – that users demand.”

“All of these are essential qualities of an enterprise video collaboration solution, and enable organizations to drive better teamwork, higher productivity, faster adoption, and a great return on investment,” Ramakrishna adds.

The Motorola XOOM provides full support for Adobe Flash Player so you can enjoy all the video and other rich web content clearer than ever before on the device’s 10.1″ HD widescreen display. And for Motorola XOOM tablets on the Verizon Wireless network, support for 4G LTE translates to even faster web browsing, movie rentals from Android Market and file downloads than ever before.

Built on the RealPresence Platform and featuring an intuitive interface, RealPresence Mobile allows users to simultaneously view content in HD (such as presentations) during the video session. The solution delivers the industry’s best video and audio for a higher-quality experience over wireless networks and supports firewall traversal and VPN (virtual private network) clients so you can easily join a conference from any WiFi, 3G or 4G network.

RealPresence Mobile was developed with an open standards-based approach to allow it to seamlessly interoperate with the broadest range of related applications, protocols, call control systems and end points. The RealPresence Platform supports up to 75,000 devices and 25,000 concurrent sessions plus resiliency and universal bridging to support both on-premises and cloud-based delivery.

Andy Miller, president and CEO of Polycom will demonstrate the new mobile solution during his keynote address on October 12.
