ULFA Militants Lay Down Arms in Assam

At least eleven cadres of the anti-talk faction group of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) surrendered before the district administration in Assam’s Tinsukia district on Friday, officials said on Saturday.

During a surrender ceremonial function held in Tinsukia in presence of Assam police DIG of Eastern Range Satyen Gogoi, Tinsukia DC Meenakshi Sundaram, SP P P Singh, top official of Bihar regiment, CRPF, Assam Regiment and Cobra Regiment, the militants belonging to the Paresh Baruah alias Paresh Asom led ULFA laid down arms.

The militants deposited four nos AK-81 rifle with four magazines, one G2 SLR with three magazines, two 7.65 pistol with two magazines, 12 nos bottle grenade, 25 rounds ammunition of 7.62 pistol, 39 rounds of AK series rifle, five rounds of 9 mm pistol, six kgs RDX, 500 grams TNT.

The surrendered militants were identified as Rantu Moran alias Ashim Asom, Niju Gohain alias Anadi Asom, Monoranjan Gogoi alias Kanu alias Mintu Asom, Dipen Saikia alias Raja asom, Manik Dohotia alias Meghan Asom, Jayanta Saikia alias Joy Asom, Bulan Moran alias David Asom, Hem Kanta Sangmai alias Jatin Khanikar, Dhanya Saikia alias Kansa, Dharmen Sonowal alias Jomba and Raju Moran alias Robika.
