At least three people were killed and 15 others injured when police opened fire at a mob which turned violent after recovering a body of Taher Ali in Assam’s Goalpara district on Monday, officials said.

The incident took place at Mailapathar area near Rakhyasini forest in district, where local people protested against the administration following a recovery of the dead body of Taher Ali (46) who was missing since April 28.

The mob turned violent and attacked the police personnel by sticks, stone and sharp weapons.

“The mob threw stones to the security personnel and damaged several vehicles, where at least five security personnel were injured,” a top police official said.
