Tension Grips Assam-Nagaland Border

Tension ran high along the Assam-Nagaland border after suspected Naga militants killed at least three persons.

The death toll rose to three after one more body was recovered from B-sector under Dhansiri sub division in Golaghat district along the Nagaland border on Wednesday morning.

On Tuesday, suspected Naga militants shot dead two persons and injured three others.

Hundreds of families from the Assam side fled from the border area and took shelter in several shelter camps at Uriumghat in the Golaghat area.

Suspected Naga miscreants torched at least 70 houses on the Assam side bordering villages on Tuesday night.

Security forces were deployed at the border area.

The Assam and Nagaland governments appealed to the people of both states to avoid unnecessary clamor.

The incident was sparked after two minor boys were kidnapped by suspected Naga militants and local residents from the Assam side on Tuesday protested against the abduction incident.
