Tension Escalates Along Assam-Nagaland Border

Tension gripped the Assam-Nagaland border on Monday, after a farmer was killed by suspected Naga miscreants in Assam’s Jorhat district.

According to the report, a farmer was killed and several persons were injured in a shooting incident at Naginijaan area near Mariani in the district along the Assam-Nagaland border.

“Suspected Naga miscreants killed the farmer along the bordering area when he went to his daily work at a tea garden,” a villager in the Naginijaan area said.

A group of heavily armed miscreants stormed the bordering area and also injured three others.

After the incident, angry local villagers protested against the police and administration for failing to protect the people, who lived in the border area.

Security forces belatedly rushed to the area and tried to control the situation.

On May 23, five labourers of the same area were kidnapped by suspected Naga militants and released the next day.

Local people of Assam, who live along the border area, have urged both state governments to take necessary action on the border issue.
