Seven Top KPLT Leaders Captured in Karbi Anglong

Guwahati, February 16 : Security forces on Monday apprehended at least seven top leaders of Karbi militant group Karbi Peoples Liberation Tiger (KPLT) including its C-in-C, deputy C-in-C in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, officials said.

Defence spokesman based in Guwahati said that, troops from army and police units captured the ultras from a hideout in the Amring forest area near a hamlet called Tapat under Hamren subdivision in the hill district, after a fierce gun fight.

Following a tip-off, army Red Horn division and police jointly launched an operation in the remote area where the militants were hiding.

“After a fierce gun battle that lasted for 45 minutes, security forces captured the ultras,” the defence spokesman said.

The captured militants were identified as KPLT commander in chief Sunder Dera, deputy C-in-C Danger Ingti, area commanders of Socheng and Amring areas.

Security forces recovered four AK series rifles, two pistols, one grenade launcher, 14 AK series rifle magazines, six pistol magazines, 2343 rounds of 7.62 caliber ammunition, 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition, dummy rifles for training of new recruits, war-like stores including incriminating documents, and extortion notes from the area.

A few days before, on Feb 15, security forces captured three hardcore militants of the same outfit, including the KPLT Finance Secretary and Auditor from the Karbirongsope area in Hamren subdivision.
