Sarbananda Sonowal Appointed New Assam BJP President

Former MP Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday was appointed as the new president of the Assam unit of Bharatiya Janata Party, officials said.

Sonowal took the position from Ranjit Dutta who resigned from the post last month.

“Before the panchayat poll in Assam, which will be held in January next year, it is a major responsibility for me to make the party effective,” Sonowal said.

On the illegal immigration issue, the new president of BJP’s Assam unit said the party has raised their voices to protect the genuine Indian citizens.

“There is no land for the illegal Bangladeshis in Assam,” Sonowal said.

Sarbananda Sonowal, the former president of All Assam Students Union (AASU) was elected as a member of parliament from Dibrugarh lok sabha constituency in 2004, who contested from Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).
