Police Kill Innocent Youth in Assam

Paresh Baruah led anti-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), claimed that Assam Police and Indian army personnel killed an “innocent” Assamese youth in a fake encounter in Assam.

After a suspected militant was shot dead during an encounter with security forces at Dirak Sonjan area in Tinsukia district along the Assam-Arunachal border on Sunday, the militant group claimed it would send a statement to media.

In an e-mail, ULFA’s publicity wing member Joy Asom said, “The Assam Police should stop killing the innocent Assamese youth in fake encounters.”

A spokesman for The United Liberation Front of Asom disavowed any links between their organization and the dead youth, or the five who were injured.

“The killed youth and the injured five others were not our cadres, but they are all innocent Assamese youths. They had no links with us”, ULFA said.

Assam police sources said a suspected ULFA militant was killed and other five cadres of the outfit were injured in an encounter with security forces along the Assam-Arunachal border on Sunday.
