KPLT GS With 16 Cadres in Police Safeguard


Diphu November 29: Karbi ultra organization KPLT’s (Karbi Peoples Liberation Tigers) general secretary Risim Lakthey along with 17 hardcore cadres of KPLT have taken refuge under Diphu police a few days ago; the split group of KPLT has brought back an assortment of heavy to medium range weaponry with them.

The faction of KPLT comes within reach of police following clash within the outfit. “They have expressed their willingness to return to mainstream surrendering arms before the authority; practically they are within our safeguard now and shortly they will lay down their arms officially,” said a highly placed police officer of the district on condition of anonymity.

It may be mentioned here that after intensifying operation against the outfit throughout the district Risim Lakthey expressed willingness for returning to mainstream sometime back since then he was in touch with the security force.

A month back due to ideological differences between the previous general secretary of KPLT Paklar Aganj and Chairman Ron Rongpi the general secretary of the outfit was killed when he was attacked by his comrades; Ron Rongpi was arrested by police later. After the incident Risim Lakthey reorganized the outfit but once more differences within the chain of command forced the incumbent general secretary to desert the organization.

“Split within the outfit has no doubt weaken the party and more cadres will follow them, but we are concerned with the offshoots of the surrendered militants who are mushrooming under new names, this ragtag groups are responsible for escalation in extortion and abduction” NN Goswami Superintendent of Police Hamren said to the media while commenting on the law and order situation of Hamren yesterday.
