IED Recovered in Assam, Two Rabha Militants Arrested


Guwahati, October 23 : Security forces recovered a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED), one point 32 pistol and apprehended two hardcore militants in Assam on Wednesday, police said.

According to reports, security forces recovered a powerful IED weighing 5 kilograms from the Krishnai Guria Hirapara area of Goalpara district, following revealed by two nabbed militants of Rabha National Liberation Front (RNLF), who were arrested by security personnel at Jorabat area, on the outskirts of Guwahati city on Wednesday morning. The security forces recovered one point 32 pistol, two rounds of live ammunition from the men.

The arrested militants were identified as Himangshu Rabha and Mrinmoy Rabha.

“Following a tip off, a joint team of police and army launched an operation in the Jorabat area and apprehended the militants, who travelled in a Tata Sumo vehicle from Goalpara to Shillong,” Guwahati city police SP (Operation) Ranjan Bhuyan said.

“The militant group had planned to explode the IED on the railway track in the border district of Assam and Meghalaya,” Bhuyan said.

The IED was defused by the army bomb squad.
