At a time when some Guwahati based regional electronic channels and Diphu based local dailies are claiming to have revealed a weird and wonderful geyser or hot spring located in Donghalf mountain whose water remains cool under scorching sunshine but turns hot at night. However, a number of professionals have rebuff the authenticity of the claim.

As reported the spring is located between general areas of Dengaon in east Karbi Anglong around six kilometers from national highway 36, natural water is rolling out from a creek situated at the base of the Donghalf hill and the water remains cool throughout the day time but abruptly turns hot after sunset. Although the abnormal happening was observed by the people of nearby villages since a long time but the matter remained dormant until its recent detection. “When underground water comes to exterior through layer of lime, water add temperature, hot springs are natural geyser, it is quite difficult for me to understand how can the same water get chill during day time, probably the local people are asserting the matter from the instantaneous variation of hot and cold; apparently it appear just not possible but one needs to examine the spot to learn the authenticity Dr. Nirob Sharma,” Principal of Diphu Government College said.

“If ground water from a hot spring flows for a considerable length out in the open naturally it will lose temperate and at time the water may materialize to be cool in comparison, but presence of hot water spring is quite possible,” Jotin Sharma Divisional Forest Officer of Hamren said.

It may be mentioned here that the place is contagious forest of the Nambor reserve where apart from coal deposit many rare earth materials exists; beside this it is one of the surveyed petroleum potent location of in the Assam-Arakan Basin of northeast India.
