Guwahati, January 6 (IBNS): A hardcore cadre of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) was killed in a gun battle with security forces in the Goalpara district along the Assam-Meghalaya border on Saturday night, officials said on Sunday.
The incident took place at Kachamari area along the Assam-Meghalaya border.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of army and police launched a search operation in the area, where a militant group of anti-talk faction group of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and GNLA was hiding.
“When we reached the area, the militant group started firing and bullets were exchanged for an hour,” a top police official said.
An GNLA militant was killed on the spot and others managed to flee from the encounter place.
Security forces recovered a carbine, ammunition and incriminating documents in the slain militant’s possession.
The slain militant was identified as Ashel Changma.
Also, police apprehended two GNLA militants from the Dudhnoi area in Goalpara district on Sunday.
The nabbed militant duo were identified as Neet D Changma and Maukham Momin.
