Five UNLF Militants Arrested in Guwahati


Guwahati, June 8: Five hardcore cadres of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) were apprehended by security forces in Guwahati on Thursday night, police said on Friday.

“A joint team of Guwahati city police and 128 bn of CRPF nabbed four militants of the outfit group at the Jorabat area outskirts of Guwahati, while they were travelling from Aizawl to Guwahati in a Tata Sumo car,” Guwahati city police SP Ranjan Bhuyan said.

The arrested militants were identified as Waren alias Hitler, Waikhom Robinson alias Yaiphakon, Samjet Sabam Laiteng alias Shanta alias Nanao and Lallawmpuia Champai.

During the interrogation, police arrested another cadre of the outfit group on Friday morning from the Paltan Bazar area in the city, who was identified as Moirangtham Joy alias Robin.

Several outfit groups of the north eastern region took shelter in the city and were operating their organizational activities and collecting funds from businessman, government officials for the last couple of years.

Security forces arrested at least 30 hardcore cadres and seized arms-ammunitions of several outfit groups from the city and nearby areas in the past 10 months.

On May 4, Guwahati city police recovered huge cache of arms-ammunitions of the Garo rebels group Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) from Gorchuk area and arrested six persons including two illegal arms traders.
