Eight More NDFB(S) Militants Arrested in Assam

Guwahati, (IBNS) – Security forces apprehended eight NDFB(S) militants and recovered another large cache of arms and ammunition in Assam’s Kokrajhar and Chirang districts in the past 48 hours, officials said.

Assam police IGP of BTAD, Dr LR Bisnoi, said five hardcore NDFB(S) cadres were arrested in Kokrajhar district on Sunday.

Following a tip-off, police and army Red horns division jointly launched an operation in the Ripu reserve forest area near Moinaguri under Kachugaon police station in Kokrajhar district, and apprehended the militants.

The arrested militants were identified as Rakeswar Mushahary, Bodang Basumutary alias Danswrang, Bara Mushahary, Daneswar Basumutary alias B Daphung, and Kharta Brahma alias Jwngsar.

Security forces recovered two 7.65mm pistols, three 36HE grenades, eight rounds of 7.62 AK ammunition, two rounds of 7.65mm ammunition, and two mobile handsets from the militants.

In a separate operation launched by the army in the Manas reserve forest in Chirang district, another hardcore NDFB(S) militant of who involved in the recent massacre in Kokrajhar district.

Security personnel recovered extortion notes, an appointment list and incriminating documents about the outfit group.

Police and army also apprehended two militants of the outfit group from Darrangamela area in Tamulpur on Saturday.

The militants were identified as Laoga Basumutary and Girish Soren. Police recovered two hand grenades and eight detonators at this location.

“An intensified operation has continued against militants in BTAD area and more than 50 militants have been arrested so far,” Assam police IGP of BTAD, Dr LR Bisnoi said.
