Diwali Festival of Lights Photo Story

NewsBlaze Photojournalist, Sumit Tharan was in New Delhi for the Diwali festival, capturing the sights as the people enjoy their annual festival.

People buy small clay pots, called diyas, used for decoration and for their puja or prayers. The small pots are filled with oil and set alight, producing a beautiful display.

Some people draw beautiful Rangoli, a colorful pattern made from dyed powders and flowers, that welcomes the goddess Lakshmi.

The markets are beautifully decorated before the festival, and shopkeepers arrange small figurines of the god, Ganesha and the goddess Lakshmi.

Fireworks are a part of Diwali too, some are simple displays, some are very large and lavish.
