Two KPLT Militants Gunned Down

Two hardcore militants belonging to Karbi Peoples Liberation Tiger (KPLT) were gunned down during an encounter with security forces in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Thursday, police said.

According to reports, a joint team of police and army red horn division launched an operation against the militant group in the Dolamara area of the hill district, and the two KPLT militants were killed during a gunfight.

The encounter took place at Rongtang village under Dolamara police station on Thursday morning.

“When troops reached the remote area a militant group was hiding there. They started firing and forced us to exchange bullets, and two militants gunned down,” Karbi Anglong district SP Mugdha Jyoti Mahanta said.

Security forces recovered two 7.65mm pistols, one revolver, several rounds of ammunition from the slain militants. Other police arrested a United Peoples Liberation Army (UPLA) militant, identified as Asati Bey from Bokolia area.

Police seized one grenade with some extortion notes from Asati Bey. He was involved in the killing of Hamren Police District SP Nityananda Goswami last year.
