Assam Security Forces Killed 12 Militants In Past Six Months

Security Forces Arrest More Than 300

In the past six months, security forces killed 12 National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Sangbijit faction) militants.

In addition, more than 300 terrorists were arrested across the state from the two main terrorist organisations, the Bodo rebel group, ULFA(I) and Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger (KPLT).

On Sunday, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 4 Army Corps, Lt. General Sarath Chand addressed the media in Tezpur. The General said since the December massacre in 2014 in Sonitpur, Kokrajhar and Chirang districts, at least 12 NDFB(S) militants were killed in gun fights with security forces.

“Army and Assam police captured more than 300 militants of different rebel groups in just the period of six months,” the Lt. General said.

“Most districts including Lower Assam remained peaceful since December 23 last year, when at least 81 tribal people were killed by NDFB(S) militants,” Chand said.

The Commanding Officer told the media about a recent operation in Manas National Park, where security personnel were patrolling on a boat. They intercepted militants on the river bank within the national park, leading to heavy gunfight. Some militants escaped but no security forces were injured.

The security forces disrupted the NBFB(S) operation, and confiscated arms, ammunition and rations from their camp.

“None of the security forces were injured, but the NDFB(S) had made false propaganda on the matter. Security forces had busted a camp of NDFB(S) and recovered a huge cache of arms, ammunition, rations, and war-like stores during the operation,” Chand said.

Lt. General Chand said the militant groups throughout the North Eastern region engage in smuggling arms and drugs to fund their operations.

“They collected more funds by smuggling arms and drugs,” Chand said.

The top army official said security forces will continue their massive operations against the militants in the region.
