Assam Saddened By Death of Soccer Superstar Ronin Sangma

Much-admired soccer player of Assam Ronin Sangma died in the Diphu Civil Hospital yesterday, at the early age of 47. He left behind his wife and daughter.

Ronin Sangma suffered from multiple diseases for a long time and was undergoing treatment. He was given a Christian entombment within the campus of his Diphu residence today in the presence of hundreds of his friends and fans. Diphu Sports lovers mourned the loss of the athlete.

Sangma began his football career in 1977 as a sub junior player. His first appearance led the Karbi Anglong sub junior team to victory two consecutive times.

In 1979 he was included in the Assam sub junior team and in the debut he was given the rare honour of Captain-ship chiefly due to his rare skill Assam sub junior team became champion for two times.

In 1987 he represented Aria Bidyapith, Guwahati in the Subrata Cup and was selected for the National sub junior team in the same year, he represented the national school team in Seoul. He played for a long time for Nobojoti Club, Guwahati and Food Corporation of India. Sangma later joined Assam State Electricity Board as an official player.
