Assam Congress MLA Rumi Nath Arrested

Assam Congress legislator Dr Rumi Nath was arrested for her alleged involvement with an auto theft gang, police said.

Assam police on Tuesday arrested the Congress MLA of Borkhola assembly constituency in Cachar district at her official residence in Guwahati.

“She was arrested from her official residence on Tuesday morning for a link with most wanted kingpin of auto theft gang Anil Chauhan who was arrested by police recently,” Guwahati city police commissioner Jyotirmoy Chakraborty said.

“We registered a case 663/15 against Rumi Nath under section 120(B), 212, 420, 468 IPC in Dispur police station,” a top police official said.

The MLA filed an anticipatory bail petition in Gauhati high court on April 9, following the arrest of her estranged second husband Jacky Zakir and police caught her personal security officer (PSO) Debabrata Borpatra Gohain from special branch headquarter in the state capital on April 8.

On Monday, the Congress legislator of Borkhola assembly constituency said she is innocent and not absconding.

During the police investigation, it was found that a state assembly car pass was issued to Anil Chauhan three times by recommendation of Rumi Nath.

UPDATE

Dr. Nath appeared before Kamrup CJM court, and the court sentenced the Borkhola assembly legislator to 14 days judicial custody. She will be released on April 27.
