Two People Including A Militant Killed In Assam Encounter

Two people including a militant were killed in an encounter between security forces and National Democratic front of Bodoland (Sangbijit) militants in Assam’s Sonitpur district, along the Arunachal Pradesh border on Saturday, police said.

The encounter took place in the Kalamati area near Mishamari in Northern Assam district, where a hardcore militant of the outfit group and a student were killed.

“Based on intelligence received, police launched an operation in the remote area, where four militants were hiding. When security personnel reached the area, the militant group fired and bullets were exchanged, in which two people including a militant were killed,” Assam police IGP SN Singh said.

A hardcore militant of the rebel group identified as B Redbon was killed on spot and a student Nayan Jyoti Medhi, who was allegedly linked with the militant group, was injured.

The injured student was rushed to hospital, but succumbed his injuries during treatment.

Police recovered one 7.65mm pistol, several rounds of ammunition from the slain militant.

Meanwhile, security forces recovered 1010 rounds of live ammunition of AK series rifles and arrested a person from Maibong area in Dima Hasao district on Saturday.
