Manchester United 3-0 Fulham, Sunderland 1-1 Manchester City

A roundup of Sunday’s Premiership action.

Manchester United continued the fight for the title today with a 3-0 win whilst rivals Manchester City struggled for a point to help their charge for fourth.

Against a solid Fulham team Man Utd weren’t going to have it easy and they failed to find the back of the net in the first half, but just as the second forty-five kicked off the in form Rooney put them ahead when he drilled his shot past Schwarzer.

Berbatov set Rooney up for his second later in the game before the Bulgarian grabbed a goal of his own with a header in stoppage time.

In the other game of the afternoon Sunderland were coming off the back of a fantastic 4-0 victory, their first win in a while, and so their confidence was high when they invited Manchester City to the Stadium of Light.

Jones headed the home side into a surprise lead early on and as they threatened to score a second Manchester City looked lost. Chances fell the way of the away side late in the second half and ‘keeper Gordon found himself working overtime to keep City out.

Adam Johnson came on as a substitute late on for City and the local lad, whose family are devout Sunderland fans, was the one to steal a point when his fantastic shot curled over the ‘keeper and over the head of a defender on the line. A lucky late one for City who will need to perform a lot better to keep up with Villa and Spurs in the fight for fourth.

Also looking for that fourth spot are Liverpool, whose luck has been low lately. They are hoping for a top performance against the bottom side Portsmouth tomorrow when the two meet at Anfield. It should be an easy run out for Liverpool who may smash Pompy and take out their frustrations on the south-coast side.
