US Offers $10M for Lashkar-E-Tayyiba Leaders

The United States of America today announced that it is offering a $10 million reward for information leading to the arrest or conviction of Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT) founder Hafiz Mohammad Saeed and a reward of up to $2 million for information leading to the location of LeT’s second in command, Hafiz Abdul Rahman Makki.

Hafiz Mohammad Saeed is the founder of Lashkar-e-Tayyiba, which was designated by the U.S. Department of State as a Foreign Terrorist Organization on December 20, 2001.

Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, the main conspirator of the Mumbai attacks of 26/11, is an international terrorist who is freely moving and publicly abusing America and India in Pakistan. The same Hafiz Saeed earlier established the terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba. When it became excessively notorious, then Saeed put up the label of social organisation on it and in this way in 2001, he became head of the newly self created organisation Jamaat-Ud-Daawah. Meanwhile, LeT was banned under international pressure.

Saeed and his organization continue to spread ideology advocating terrorism, as well as virulent rhetoric condemning the United States, India, Israel, and other perceived enemies, the US Department said.

Hafiz Mohammad Sayeed is the chief of Pak-based Jamaat-Ud-Dawa He has emerged as the biggest hurdle between India-Pakistan relations. He has become the world’s most controversial and most wanted terrorist.

On December 10, 2008, Saeed was listed at the UN 1267/1989 al-Qa’ida Sanctions Committee as an individual associated with the al-Qaida terrorist organization and, thus, subject to international sanctions.

Saeed was born on June 5, 1950 in Punjab province, Pakistan. He has red hair and brown eyes and currently resides in Lahore, Pakistan.

Hafiz Abdul Rahman Makki is Saeed’s deputy and head of Lashkar-e-Tayyiba’s political affairs department. Makki previously served as head of LeT’s foreign relations department and has helped raise funds for LeT.

In early 2007, he reportedly provided approximately $248,000 to an LeT terrorist training camp and approximately $165,000 to an LeT-affiliated madrassa. On November 4, 2010, the U.S. Treasury Department designated him a “Specially Designated National,” which subjects him to U.S. sanctions.

Makki was born around 1948 in Punjab province, Pakistan. He has a dark beard, is balding, and wears glasses.

As of late 2008, Hafiz Abdul Rahman Makki was reported to be head of LET’s political affairs department and served as head of LET’s foreign relations department. Makki has also played a role in raising funds for LET. In early 2007, he gave approximately $248,000 to an LET training camp and approximately $165,000 to an LET-affiliated madrassa.

On November 2010, the U.S. Department of the Treasury today targeted the financial and support networks of Pakistan-based terrorist organizations Lashkar-e Tayyiba (LET) and Jaish-e Mohammed (JEM). Treasury took action against Azam Cheema, who helped train operatives for the November 2008 Mumbai attacks and was the “mastermind” behind the July 2006 Mumbai train bombings carried out by LET, for acting for or on behalf of LET.

Treasury also acted against Hafiz Abdul Rahman Makki, head of LET’s political affairs department, for acting for or on behalf of LET. Al Rehmat Trust, an operational front for JEM was designated for providing support to and for acting for or on behalf of JEM, and Mohammed Masood Azhar Alvi, JEM’s founder and leader, was also designated today for acting for on behalf of JEM.

The Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), which was created with the sole objective of getting independence for Kashmir, has also started working away from its objective. This organisation is involved in killings of many innocent people in India besides the killing of a retired Pakistan Army General.

These inhuman groups succeed in getting poor and depressed uneducated youths by saying that besides all materialistic things, they would also get to heaven. With this allurement, an illiterate and unemployed youth joins such terrorist organisations.

Currently, all Pak-based terrorist organisations are targeting the US, India and their interests.

Like Pakistan, the Afghanistan-based Islamic jihadis have nothing to do with true Islamic education. The main source of income for the terrorists of the Taliban ideology is poppy cultivation. This is the most dangerous drug business in the world.

Since its inception, Rewards for Justice has paid more than $62 million to more than 40 people who have provided credible information that has brought terrorists to justice or prevented acts of international terrorism. Established by the 1984 Act to Combat International Terrorism, the program is administered by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security.
