President Obama Appoints Senator John Kerry as Secretary of State

President Barack Obama today nominated Senator John Kerry to be the next Secretary of State.

Reports say the the Massachusetts Senator John Kerry will succeed Hillary Clinton.

In her remarks today in washington DC, Ambassador Susan E. Rice says America is fortunate that Senator John Kerry will be the next Secretary of State, once confirmed by the Senate.

She says for over four decades, Senator Kerry has served extremely ably and demonstrated selfless commitment to our country.

John Forbes Kerry is the senior United States Senator from Massachusetts, in office since 1985.

From his heroic service in the U.S. Navy, his principled opposition to the Vietnam War, and his distinguished tenure in the U.S. Senate, Senator Kerry has led tirelessly and effectively to advance U.S. interests and values around the globe.

“I have been honored to work with him in the past, and I look forward to working closely with him again on President Obama’s national security team.” – Ms. Rice

In her remarks, Ms. Rice expresses gratitude to Secretary Clinton for her exemplary service as Secretary of State.

She says she admires her enormously and greatly appreciate her support and partnership as a valued colleague.

“Our nation owes Secretary Clinton an enduring debt of gratitude for her many years of outstanding public service.” – Ms. Rice

She adds that she is looking forward to witnessing the next chapter in Ms. Clinton’s remarkable story.

Senator Kerry ran for 2004 presidential race but failed his presidential campaign against George W Bush.

He is currently the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
