The prominent leader of al-Qaeda in East Africa was reportedly killed in Mogadishu, Somalia. The Somali Police also confirmed today that Fazul Abdullah Mohammed is dead.
The Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Harun Fazul’s death is a significant blow to Al Qaeda, its extremist allies, and its operations in East Africa.
“It is a just end for a terrorist who brought so much death and pain to so many innocents in Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, and elsewhere – Tanzanians, Kenyans, Somalis, others in the region, and our own embassy personnel.”-Ms. Clinton
The key al-Qaeda figure was killed by Transitional Federal Government (TFG) forces in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia.
Al-Qaeda top commander Mohammed is suspected in Kenya of involvement in two attacks in Mombasa on November 26, 2002. He was also the main suspect in the truck bombing of Paradise Hotel which killed 15 civilians.
