Multi-National Forces Capture Abu Ghraib IED Cell

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Multi-National Forces captured two members of a terror cell on On Sept. 2, 2005. That cell made and emplaced a number of improvised explosive devices in and around Iraq’s Abu Ghraib area, 20 miles west of Baghdad.

Haytham Nafi’ ‘Ali Husayn, also known as Haytham Attah, the leader of the improvised explosive device cell, was captured near the town of Al Amiriyah. The suspected terrorist location near Al Amiriyah was raided by the Multi-National Force after gaining intelligence from multiple sources.

The cell leader, Haytham Attah, purchased explosives and ordnance for the purpose of making IEDs, to attack both Iraqi Security and Coalition Forces. He was also known to emplace IEDs on the main roads in and around Abu Ghraib.

Haytham Attah’s partner in crime, Wathiq Hamid ‘Abdallah Muhammad was also captured. Wathiq assisted Haytham Attah securing and transporting IED materials between multiple IED cells in the Abu Ghraib area and he assisted with attacks against Iraqi Security Forces and Coalition Forces.

The bomb-making duo, Haytham Attah and Wathiq were detained by the Multi-National Force-Iraq, and are now being held pending their trial before the Central Criminal Court of Iraq.

Technical Expertise
