Lt. Gen. Peter Chiarelli visits FOB Warhorse

Lt. Gen. Peter Chiarelli, commanding general, Multinational Corps-Iraq, visited the Iron Brigade at Forward Operating Base Warhorse, Sept. 21, 2006, to meet with unit commanders and discuss current and future operations in Diyala Province.

Chiarelli was introduced to battalion commanders by Col. Brian D. Jones, commander, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Task Force Lightning.

Lt. Gen. Chiarelli met with Lt. Col. Lou Lartigue, commander, 2nd Squadron, 9th Cavalry, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Task Force Lightning, Lt. Col. Chris Pappas, commander, 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team 82nd Airborne Division, and Lt. Col. Thomas Fisher, commander, 1-68 Combined Arms Battalion, 3rd HBCT, 4th ID, Task Force Lightning.

Technical Expertise

Alan is also a techie. His father was a British soldier in the 4th Indian Division in WWII, with Sikhs and Gurkhas. He was a sergeant in signals and after that, he was a printer who typeset magazines and books on his linotype machine. Those skills were passed on to Alan and his brothers, who all worked for Telecom Australia, on more advanced signals (communications). After studying electronics, communications, and computing at college, and building and repairing all kinds of electronics, Alan switched to programming and team building and management.
