EPA Rules Contain More Words Than The Bible

Our government has gone completely mad.

Most Americans would probably agree with that, not even knowing I am specifically talking about EPA regulations.

For everyday Americans this may seem terrifying: the Environmental Protection Agency has issued 3,373 new final regulations since President Obama took office in January 2009.

The EPA now has 29,770 pages in the Federal Register. Compare that to a book that we know is quite large – the Gutenberg Bible, which contains 1,282 pages.

Is that outrageous? Maybe outrageous isn’t a powerful enough word to describe how bad that is!

In case you don’t know it, the Federal Register publishes documents including rules, notices, interim rules, corrections, drafts of final rules, and final rules.

Under the Obama administration, the EPA’s regulations take up almost 30,000 pages, according to CNS News, which counted the pages containing the final EPA rules.

Scary!

There are regulations for a wide array of subjects including:

  • greenhouse gases
  • air quality
  • hazardous substances
  • emissions
  • CNS News also estimated the number of words in the new final regulations by calculating an approximate average of 1,000 words per page. The final tally puts the new final regulations under Obama about 29.77 million words.

And you though the income tax laws were complex and bloated!

Comparing again to the Gutenberg Bible, which has 646,128 words, the EPA regulations issued by the Obama administration contain about 23 times as many pages and 46 times as many words as the Bible.

    So much for smaller government.

Do Republicans know about this? What are they doing about it? What have they been doing while these have been building up?

Next up for regulation by the EPA are aircraft emissions. Apparently they aim to regulate them in much the same way as power plants.

    Why would they do that?

Because, they say, aircraft “are a threat to human health because they contain pollutants said to contribute to global warming.”

Thankfully, President Obama only has 18 months left in his final term as president. The Federal Register may not be able to handle much more of this!
