6+8+4 Reasons Romney Lost Ohio

After looking at ballot statistics in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, it is clear there are some major issues for republicans in Ohio. In many Cuyahoga County precincts, there were very few registered republicans – and in some cases, none at all.

Joe Guillen, a journalist at The Plain Dealer, reports that Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted, a republican, violated state elections law, on November 2nd. Husted says his aim was to prevent fraud and reject provisional ballots without a valid ID. U.S. District Judge Algenon Marbley said Husted’s action may disenfranchise voters.

There has been talk about the seemingly strange electoral demographics in Ohio. with many precincts not having even a single vote for Romney = 100% for Obama. This makes people suspect fraud, but the pattern this year is actually better than it was in 2008. Looking at the 2008 election, Cleveland had 45 precincts in which there were zero republican votes, but this time, there were only 10.

In a strangely misleading turn of events, around 15,000 people turned out to meet Mitt Romney, in Cleveland. The Obama campaign put in a major effort in Cuyahoga County, providing free food, free water, and free concerts. Even Stevie Wonder gave a free concert, but only about 200 people came. Joe Biden flew in, to a crowd of less than 1,000.

It was little wonder, then, that Republicans thought they had it wrapped up, but after the counting was over, the numbers showed a different result.

Obama 50.6% to Romney 47.9%.

Here are some possible reasons for the loss, part serious, part humor.
