Is Global Warming Good?

By

Global warming may be fighting it out with the coming ice age and if true, this would make atmospheric pollution a good thing.

This theory does not claim that there is no global warming due to increased carbon dioxide and methane in the atmosphere, rather it suggests that if the earth should be getting colder due to solar cycles, then increasing greenhouse gases could be saving us from a far more devastating threat.

We published an earlier article introducing this idea "Is Global Warming Vital to Human Survival?" April 23, 2013

My new Kindle book goes into a lot of detail about the astrophysics behind ice ages and explains in detail the theory behind Milankovitch Cycles which are widely thought to explain why the earth periodically experiences devastating ice ages.

Not often discussed these days, but never actually refuted, a few years ago Science Daily carried a story on this same subject indicating a belief by some climate scientists that global warming actually began with the start of large scale agriculture.

Here, in part is the essence of their report which is available at http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/12/081217190433.htm.

Climatic archives such as 850,000-year-old ice core records from Antarctica are showing evidence of past greenhouse gases in trapped air bubbles. That ancient air, say Vavrus and Kutzbach, contains the unmistakable signature of increased levels of atmospheric methane and carbon dioxide beginning thousands of years before the industrial age.

(Stephen Vavrus, a climatologist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Center for Climatic Research and the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies and associate John Kutzbach)

Back in 2008 in a presentation to the American Geophysical Union John Kutzbach and GwenaŽlle Philippon joined Vavrus in supporting a controversial idea first put forward by climatologist William F. Ruddiman of the University of Virginia that extensive deforestation in Europe began to alter world climate by pumping significant amounts of greenhouse gases, methane from terraced rice paddies and carbon dioxide from burning forests were the start of global warming.

"Between 5,000 and 8,000 years ago, both methane and carbon dioxide started an upward trend, unlike during previous interglacial periods," stated Kutzbach.

"We're at a very favorable state right now for increased glaciation," says Kutzbach. "Nature is favoring it at this time in orbital cycles, and if humans weren't in the picture it would probably be happening today."
