KCET's Program Spotlights Joe Bonamassa's Concert At Vienna Opera House

KCET Premieres Joe Bonamassa: An Acoustic Evening at the Vienna Opera House, March 2

KCET invites viewers to enjoy the musical styling of blues rock guitarist and singer Joe Bonamassa with the special, Joe Bonamassa: An Acoustic Evening at the Vienna Opera House, airing Saturday, March 2 at 9:30 p.m. Capture the magnetism and maturity Bonamassa showcases as an artist in this premiere presentation.

This hour and a half program spotlights Bonamassa's special and exclusive concert at the Vienna Opera House from July 2012, which he played to a limited audience over seven exclusive European shows during a two week unplugged tour. The Vienna Opera House is a sublime cultural iconic venue steeped in history and heritage, which is the perfect backdrop for such a dramatic and original music presentation. Bonamassa had the honor of playing on the same stage as other musical prodigies such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig Van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Johannes Brahms, Gustav Mahler and Joseph Haydn. Varying from his predominantly electric blues shows, this presentation was an all-acoustic concert performance, making it a unique and very special show fans had been waiting years to experience.

Also featured in Bonamassa's exclusive performance is an eclectic assortment of craftsmen from around the globe. They include: Gerry O'Connor, a music historian and traditional Irish fiddler from many generations of Irish music, who will play mandolin and Irish banjo; Swedish multi-instrumentalist Mats Wester on the Nyckelharpa, a Swedish keyed-fiddle which will inject a traditional and unique "world" feel into a set of original and iconic songs; Los Angeles keyboard maestro Arlan Schierbaum, whose extensive recording career focuses on organic instruments, will add all manner of musical textures with accordions, celeste, toy pianos, and more; and legendary Puerto Rican percussionist Lenny Castro, whose works spans genres and reads like a who's who of artists, including the Rolling Stones, Sir Elton John, Eric Clapton, Boz Scaggs, Toto, Steely Dan, Christopher Cross, Stevie Wonder, David Sanborn, Avenged Sevenfold, Little Feat, Tom Petty, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and hundreds of others.

The program repeats on Monday, March 11 at 2 p.m. and Friday, March 15 at 12 p.m.
