Virginia Beach Sets Cartwheeling Record
"For nearly an hour, they shivered on the beach in bone-numbing cold. Kids burrowed their bodies into the sand, hoping to stay warm. Adults danced in place. Icy sprinkles of rain fell. Despite it all, they weren't going to leave until they got what they came for: a cartwheel and a record.
In packs, they assembled on the Boardwalk at 17th Street to be part of history. Saturday would be the day the city broke a Guinness World Record for the "most people performing cartwheels at the same time."
Congratulations to the 1,086 fun-loving folks who took part in the record-breaking event!
Kids don't play to reduce stress, lose weight, or as a form of therapy, they play for the sheer fun of it. A kid, who suddenly cartwheels, for no apparent reason, always brings a smile to my face.
Nothing symbolizes the carefree attitude of youth more than a cartwheel. Watching hundreds of children and adults performing cartwheels made me feel like a child again.
Watching this video has inspired me to try a cartwheel, I will go outside to my backyard and hopefully I can perform a cartwheel without hurting my back on landing on my head.
