Florida High Schools Bans Valentine's Day Gifts

By   get stories by email

"Two Florida high schools are banning students from exchanging Valentine's Day gifts to prevent distractions from learning.

Principal Margaret Nampon of Lake Nona High School in Orlando said in a Wednesday message to parents that any students bearing Valentine's gifts such as balloons, flowers and teddy bears will be required to leave them in the office for the duration of the school day and any attempted deliveries will be sent away, the Orlando Sentinel reported Thursday."

Schools should be in the business of promoting good old-fashioned romance. There's nothing more pure and innocent than a student giving flowers or a teddy bear to his sweetheart.

In this age when students trade adult movie files with each other, schools should promote Valentine's Day and quaint notions like kids giving chocolates to their friends.

The principal banned Valentine's Day to prevent distractions from learning, get real! I'm sure the kids are sexting while the boring English teacher drones on and on.

Even if celebrating Valentine's Day in school were a distraction, this evil world desperately needs a distraction of kids exchanging gifts of flowers and teddy bears.
