Barney First Dog In George W. Bush's White House Dies
"Former President George W. Bush announced that Barney, his beloved Scottish Terrier, died Friday. The furry black canine was 12.
'Laura and I are sad to announce that our Scottish Terrier, Barney, has passed away,' Bush said. 'The little fellow had been suffering from lymphoma and after twelve and a half years of life, his body could not fight off the illness.'"
Barney was the nation's First Dog from 2001 to 2009, and he is beloved by Americans of all political persuasions. Barney left a mark on pop culture, there are dozens of Web sites dedicated to the presidential pooch.
"Barney greeted Queens, Heads of State, and Prime Ministers. He was always polite and never jumped in their laps," Bush warmly recalled. Isn't that one of the primary duties of the Vice President, Obama's popularity would surge if he replaced the bumbling Joe Biden with loveable Bo, the White House dog.
The President of the United States is the Leader of the Free World, and the most recognizable and influential person in the world. But when we see Obama frolicking with Bo, it humanizes him and makes him a person we can relate to an actually like.
Obama has admitted eating dogs when he was a child in Indonesia, but when we see him playing with Bo he seems so American, and we wonder if maybe he really was born in Hawaii, and not Kenya.
Barney we mourn your death, but you will live forever in the dozens of videos you left behind.
