Moscow Officials Ban Drunks From Epiphany Baths

By   get stories by email

"Moscow officials said 'drunk people' will not be allowed to take part in the traditional Epiphany bathing in ice-cold water.

The Epiphany celebrates Jesus Christ's baptism in the Jordan River and the revelation of his divine nature."

This isn't an obscure religious ritual, more than 120,880 Muscovites participated in 2012.

I would hate to make a mockery of a religious ritual, but there is no way I would take a dip in ice-cold water without being drunk as a skunk.

If drunk people will not be allowed to take part in the traditional Epiphany bathing ceremony that rules out most Russians, Christians and non-believers, from participating.

I've just had an epiphany, only about 120 Muscovites will take the plunge this year.
