'In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida' Rocker Lee Dorman Dead

By   get stories by email

"Lee Dorman, the bassist for 'In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida' rockers Iron Butterfly, has died of apparent natural causes in California, a coroner said. He was 70.

More than 30 million copies of 'In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida,' featuring a 17-minute epic title track, have been sold over the years." - UPI

When members of the band wrote the lyrics to this stoner's masterpiece, they were probably as high as a kite. "In a gadda da vida," probably means in the Garden of Eden.

In a gadda da vida, baby
(In the Garden of Eden)
In a gadda da vida, honey
Don't you know that I'm lovin' you

But it's all good, because most folks who treasure this song are weed lovers. I've never been to a stoner's wedding where the full length version of this song wasn't played.

Today not many people, not even potheads, have the patience or the time to listen to the 17-minute version of this classic.

Rest in peace dude, I'm sure you are in the Garden of Eden, smoking weed and just chilling.
