7th NY Nepali Poetry Festival: An Encouraging Event

N & J Entertainment Inc. USA on its seventh anniversary organized the NY Nepali Poetry Festival at the Yak Restaurant's conference hall located in Jackson Heights, New York on 25th of November 2012.

In a much awaited event that began with the National Anthem of Nepal included poetry competition among adults and children, reading of non-competitive poetries, speeches of some prominent figures highlighting the importance of the Nepali language, literature, arts and culture. The NY Nepali Poetry Festival also included songs of a few popular singers to entertain the audience and more importantly, honoring of the two litterateurs has been one of the great inclusions of the NY Nepali Poetry Festival.

Litterateur Mr. Chuda Basanta Lamsal and the Poet Mr. Mani Bangdel were honored for their continued contributions in the field of Nepali language and literature. Chairman of the event Litterateur Mr. Amar Nembang honored Litterateur Mr. Chuda Basanta Lamsal who also attended the event as the Special Guest. Another invitee as the Special Guest was the Writer and the Artist Mr. Alex Gargilis, who authored the very popular book, "The World Is My Nation". His book has been launched during the 5th New York Nepali Poetry Festival of the N & J Entertainment Inc. USA.

The Chief Guest Mrs. Sewa Adhikari, the Acting Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations who honored Poet Mr. Mani Bangdel said it is highly commendable that Litterateur Ms. Kamala Prasai is continuously making her efforts towards promoting and preserving Nepali language, literature, arts and culture. Acting Permanent Representative Mrs. Adhikari expressed her happiness and satisfaction to experience such a nice literary event and thanked Litterateur Prasai for her leading role on such a very important matter.

Litterateur Ms. Kamala Prasai, the Founding President of the N & J Entertainment Inc. USA welcoming the guests thanked them for their growing interest for the Nepali literature. Thanking the sponsors of the event, Litterateur Prasai said the continued quality program in the future depends upon their generosity.

The 7th NY Nepali Poetry Festival which was hosted by the proprietor of PressChautari.com Mr. Pashan Rai who also publishes monthly magazine 'Mero Nepal (My Nepal)' by many Poets and Poetesses with the recital of their very beautiful poems. Among those who recited their poems in a non-competitive category are Poet Professor Dr. Govinda Koirala, Poetess Mrs. Jyoti Poudel, Poet Mr. Mani Bangdel, Poetess Gita Panth, Poet Mr. Chuda Basanta Lamsal, Poetess Mrs. Manu Lohorung, Poet Mr. Prashan Rai and Poetess Ms. Kamala Prasai. Poet Dr. Basanta Gautam's poem entitled, "Mero Chhoriko Desh (My Daughter's Nation)" was read who sent it from Nepal. Singer and the Poet Mr. Bikash Bista sang a beautiful song.

In a competitive adult category only the Poet Mr. Debendra Limbu received the threshold marks. It is therefore, Poet Mr. Debendra Limbu was declared the automatic first prize winner.

In the children poetry competition Poetess Ms. Aava Adhikari won the first prize, Poetess Ms. Aarya Adhikari won the second prize and the Poetess Ms. Bibhusa Bista won the third prize.

The Judges of the poetry competition Professor Dr. Govinda Koirala, Poetess Jyoti Poudel and the Poetess Manu Lohorung had to make a tough decision while grading the poems for them being the very competitive.

The event chair Litterateur Mr. Amar Nembang who concluded the event with his small speech and the Writer cum Artist Mr. Alex Gargilis handed the prizes to the winning children whereas the adult winner Mr. Limbu received the prize from the Acting Permanent Representative Mrs. Sewa Adhikari.

Among the prominent figures present at the 7th NY Nepali Poetry Festival organized by N & J Entertainment Inc. USA, were Attorney Mr. Ramesh Shrestha, Attorney Mr. Binod Roka, Artist Mr. Vijaya Nakarmi, journalist Mr. Angchiring Sherpa, journalist Mr. Bishnu Poudel, social activist Mrs. Mridula Koirala, Mr. Mani Lochan Poudel, singer Ms. Pabita Bagchand, Mr. Bishnu Pradhan, Poet Buddha Chemjong, Mrs. Sharada Chhetri, Poet Birendra Limbu, etc.

Speaking on the occasion of the 7th NY Nepali Poetry Festival, Professor Dr. Govinda Koirala and Dr. Tara Niraula praised the proper management of the event and congratulated Litterateur Kamala Prasai for her efforts to entertain audience with the quality program. These two prominent figures of the Nepali Community in the United States also wished Litterateur Prasai to organize such an invaluable event that promotes and protect Nepali language, literature, arts and culture in the future.

N and J Entertainment Inc. USA also announced the establishment of the Nepali Children Literary Award to be handed annually.
