Romney: Obama's Gifts To Minorities, Women & The Poor Helped Him Win
"Mitt Romney, on a call with top donors on Wednesday, referred to some of the policies enacted under the Obama administration as 'gifts' that helped him win young, minority and low-income voters." - WaPo
Here's The New York Times's account of the call:
"In each case they were very generous in what they gave to those groups," Mr. Romney said.
"With regards to the young people, for instance, a forgiveness of college loan interest, was a big gift," he said. "Free contraceptives were very big with young college-aged women. And then, finally, Obamacare also made a difference for them, because as you know, anybody now 26 years of age and younger was now going to be part of their parents' plan, and that was a big gift to young people. They turned out in large numbers, a larger share in this election even than in 2008."
Mitt Romney is a shape-shifter; during the long presidential campaign he adapted his message to please his audience of the day.
All politicians tweak their stump speech to appeal to the demographics of the crowd they are addressing, but Romney often contradicted himself.
The failed presidential candidate has a disdain for the common man, and he doesn't trust us enough to reveal his true self to us.
Only when Romney is speaking to wealthy donors does he say what's really on his mind. Romney made his infamous 47 percent statement in a fundraiser held in the mansion of a wealthy supporter:
"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it - that that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. ... These are people who pay no income tax. ... My job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."
Once again in a conference call with donors who supported his campaign, Romney shows his true colors, accusing Obama of bribing women, blacks, young people and Latinos to vote for him.
Romney is so clueless that he thinks the unwashed masses are motivated only by greed. Obama won in an electoral college landslide because most Americans shared Obama's vision, not because they were so thankful for receiving a free "Obama cell phone."
It should be noted that Romney supported the Obamacare provision that allowed children 26 years or younger to remain covered under their parents' plan. Romney has changed his mind so many times on just about every issue under the sun, that the human pretzel should be forgiven if he doesn't remember what his stand is on a particular issue.
The Republicans need to reach out to Hispanics, African Americans, women and young people, and with this latest controversial statement Romney is once again insulting these groups.
The Republican Party needs to distance itself from Romney if they hope to recapture the White House in 2016. GOP leaders need to demonstrate that they don't share Romney's cynical view of minorities, and they can prove that they respect Latinos by supporting comprehensive immigration reform.
