Study: You Can Burn 113 Calories By Watching Horror Movie

By   get stories by email

"Watching 90 minutes of adrenaline-pumping terror could burn as much as 113 calories, according to a new study by the University of Westminster.

That is close to the same amount as a half-hour walk and equivalent to a chocolate bar.

Scientists measured the energy of 10 different people as they watched various frightening films, all while recording their heart rate, oxygen intake and carbon dioxide output. The results indicated a number of calories used, especially in films featuring "moments designed to make viewers jump in terror," causing heart rates to increase faster."

A typical kid would have to watch a marathon of all twelve Friday the 13th movies to burn off the calories he gained eating Halloween candy.

Some folks might argue that the reality show "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" is much scarier than a horror flick, and it could burn as much as 1,113 calories. I must agree that seeing Mama vajiggle jaggle her way around her house, and not to mention her neck crud is enough to give a grown man nightmares.

Actually it's almost impossible to watch "Honey Boo Boo" or a horror film without munching on snacks. We get so frightened watching Jason killing a clueless teen or Mama preparing a road kill dinner that we nervously munch on popcorn or chips.

There must be a better way to burn calories than watching "Honey Boo Boo..." or horror movies, and indeed there is: Knock boots y'all.

You can have your "Nightmare on Elm Street."; but I'm going to lose weight by doing the nasty with some ho on my quiet street.
