Roseanne For President, Cindy Sheehan VP: Peace and Freedom Party

By

Roseanne Barr, Presidential Candidate of the Peace and Freedom Party, today announced her pick for Vice President, Cindy Sheehan. Sheehan is the California anti-war activist who gained national attention for her protest camp outside then-President Bush's Texas ranch after her son was killed in Iraq.

The Peace & Freedom Party nominating convention takes place Saturday August 4th, in Los Angeles. Barr is one of five nominations.

According to a statement on its website, the Peace and Freedom Party is committed to socialism, democracy, ecology, feminism and racial equality.

Tea Party groups are not likely to agree with much of what Barr or Sheehan say, because they are such polarizing figures, but one thing may get a Tea Party nod of agreement. Barr is on a ticket to "Throw the Bums Out."

"Cindy and I are the 'Throw the Bums Out' ticket and the 'Ballot Access' ticket. We want people to register in the Peace and Freedom Party so that the party can keep its ballot status in California."

Lesser Of Two Evils Is Still Evil

The Peace and Freedom Party sees little difference between the Democrats and Republicans, other than their names.

"The American people are sick and tired of this 'lesser evil' garbage they get fed every election year. Both the Democrats and the Republicans do the same evils once they're in office. I'm here to tell the voters: if you want to tell the government and the two domineering parties that you're sick and tired of all their evil, register in the Peace and Freedom Party and vote for me and Cindy," Barr said.

"I am excited about this chance to infuse the message of socialism with the heart and soul that is missing from political discourse and I am honored that Roseanne tagged me for this opportunity," said Sheehan.

Roseanne Barr's introductory statement says:

I am running for President of the United States, because the so-called "two-party system" in this country prevents our government from representing the people and allows it to represent big money instead. I stand for the rights and interests of working people over the narrow interest of private profit.

Most people in this country believe that everyone should have access to health care and education. Access should not be decided by the profit of insurance companies and other private institutions. But the politicians in our government currently serve their donors instead of voters. I want people to vote outside the box that perpetuates wars, gives our public funds to the banks, and destroys our economy and environment. Say NO to wholesale theft and YES to a government for the people.

We have to start building alternatives now instead of submitting, time after time, to the threat of a "greater evil." Remember that both evils have been doing the same evils once in office.

Through my TV show, I reached ordinary people with messages of empowerment and resistance through fun and humor. As a candidate, I am again reaching people to ask them to vote outside the dominant parties and start building alternatives that represent the people. The Peace & Freedom Party has been one of those alternatives for 45 years. Vote for me and support a new wave of politics beyond the tired old game.

Socialism - it's not just for Wall Street, military contractors, or Congress anymore, but all Americans!

Barr has drawn support from former Georgia Democrat Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, who has been working closely with Barr on her campaign. McKinney, the first African-American woman to represent Georgia in the House, holds many controversial views, including support for Arab causes statements that Bush knew about the 9/11 attacks in advance.
